Parenting kids in school

Supporting a student through their journey in school can be difficult for any parent. These tips can help:

• Attend back-to-school night and parent-teacher conferences.
• Get involved by volunteering at your child’s school.
• Know the school’s disciplinary policies.
• Make sure your child is ready to learn. Prepare a healthy breakfast and ensure your child has supplies, lunch and completed homework ready to go in the morning.
• Support homework expectations.
• Teach organizational and study skills.
• Visit the school and its website. Learn about school programs, curriculum, teachers and after-school activities that are available. Note test dates, special programs and class trips.
