What does Medicaid cover?

Medicaid is a comprehensive care plan that offers coverage for both medical services and preventive care to individuals with low or no income. Young adults in Stark County who are aging out of foster care, have a disability or are experiencing financial hardship should apply for Medicaid coverage today. Benefits can take some time to go into effect, so it’s important to start the application process as soon as possible.

Medicaid coverage

Typically, there are two major programs for which individuals and families qualify: Aged, Blind & Disabled (ABD) and Covered Families & Children (CF&C). Some services are covered in part by the Medicaid program, but most are provided by the managed care plan chosen at the time of enrollment.

Medicaid benefits may include:

  • Emergency and hospital visits
  • Family planning
  • Healthchek services for children, teens and young adults
  • Long-term care
  • Medical equipment
  • Mental health
  • Pregnancy
  • Prescriptions
  • Preventive health
  • Substance use treatment
  • Transportation to and from appointments
  • Vision and dental care

The above services are subject to limitations, including dollar amounts allotted for provider care, number of visits allowed during the calendar year and other factors. It is recommended that Medicaid recipients work closely with their managed care providers to maintain eligibility and stay up to date on wellness checks.
