Now, 20 years later, it is a national awareness day for many countries, including the U.S. Self-injury goes by other names, including self-harm and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), and encompasses a large range of actions that one takes to cope with extreme emotion, release tension from these emotions, or take back a perceived loss of control. Alex Lackey is the Young Adult Coordinator at StarkMHAR, and a member of the class of 2022 at the College of Wooster. They have a passion for youth mental health, believing in the value of awareness and empowerment through community action. They are a young person with lived experience in the mental health system. Aside from this, Alex enjoys playing video games, reading, music (both listening to and playing), and exploring their creative side.
