According to Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery (StarkMHAR), 1,444 members of our community were treated for opiate use in 2016 – nearly six times the number treated 10 years earlier. But without dependable transportation, young adults face obstacles in finding and sustaining meaningful employment. When it comes to teenage behavior, it can be difficult to distinguish angst and mood swings from deep emotional turmoil. Unfortunately, more than two-thirds of children have been exposed to domestic violence by the age of 17. Witnessing violence can have long-term impacts on these adolescents, putting them at higher risk for substance use, eating disorders, risky sexual behavior and even further domestic violence. Find resources to help prevent violence in the home and support young people experiencing domestic violence in Stark County.
- LGBTQ+ bullyingBullying can have lasting negative effects on LGBTQ+ youth. It can cause anxiety and depression, relationship problems, low self-esteem, substance use and even thoughts of suicide. Young people who are being bullied should seek out adult allies who are safe and confident. Adults who display rainbows in their offices, wear pins to show their support, or have Safe Zone stickers are likely good places to turn.

Child custody decisions differ depending on many factors, one of which is the child’s age. Children ages 4 to 10 thrive best when their experience in school remains consistent and parental involvement is frequent and structured. Determining the best child arrangements can be confusing, especially during difficult situations such as divorce or separation. Today, teens have rates of abuse and neglect that are as high as or higher than those of young children. - The Importance of Getting an Opioid Overdose Kit
As the opioid crisis in Northeast Ohio continued to grow, the Stark County Opiate & Addiction Task Force was created in 2011 to help educate the community and provide necessary resources on opioids. In 2014, Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) was created by the Ohio Health Department to bring together educational and naloxone distribution programs during the opioid epidemic. In order to prevent opioid overdose and to further harm reduction strategies, these organizations provide free overdose kits for anyone in Ohio who wants one.
