Minerva Public Library

Minerva Public Library has proudly served the Minerva community for more than a century. Founded in 1913 and now located at 677 Lynnwood Drive, the library has grown and evolved alongside the community it serves. Today's library is far more than a traditional "lending library." The collection includes over 100,000 items, including books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs, and CDs. Through membership in the SEO Library Consortium, cardholders can also request materials from a shared collection of more than 8 million items across 103 library systems. Library services have expanded to meet modern needs. Patrons have access to public computers, study rooms, meeting spaces, a book sale room, and free Wi-Fi. Additional services include public notary services, exam proctoring, one-on-one tech support, faxing, and photocopying. Programs are offered year-round for all ages. AHEAD, Inc.

AHEAD Inc. is a local non-profit that has supported Massillon children and their families for more than 30 years. Our purpose is to help remove the barriers that can make learning difficult, so every child has the chance to grow, succeed, and feel supported. We work side-by-side with Massillon City Schools and community partners to connect families with meaningful services and resources. AHEAD offers a variety of supports designed to strengthen students both in school and at home. We have a Behavior Coach in both elementary buildings and for 4th–5th grade at the Intermediate School. The Behavior Coach provides one-on-one and small-group support to help students with challenging behaviors build coping skills, manage emotions, and improve behavior so they can be more successful in the classroom. We also offer multiple supports for families and students experiencing homelessness. AHEAD has staff support on every CARE Team in the district and provides family outreach and support during the summer months working alongside the districts’ Food Truck out in the community. We also coordinate SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids) for three- and four-year-olds at East Elementary. SPARK helps families build early reading, language, and social skills to make the transition into kindergarten smooth and successful. Help Me Grow-Early Intervention

If you’re concerned that a child may have a delay or disability, it’s important to refer them for Early Intervention as soon as possible. Early Intervention can address all types of concerns, like crawling or walking, speech delays, or social interaction like playing with other children.
How does Early Intervention work for families?
  • Once the family is assigned to an early intervention provider, that provider will walk the family through the eligibility process and determine the next steps.
  • If a child is eligible for services, the family and service coordinator will develop a plan to support the family on their journey to help their child get their best possible start in life.
  • Parents and families are the center of a child’s development. That’s why service coordinators and other service providers work closely with the family to help build their skills and confidence in supporting their child and to help them navigate the journey with their child.

Help Me Grow-Home Visiting

Home Visiting is a voluntary, home-based program offered at no cost to your family. Our home visitors are well-trained professionals who use a compassionate approach that offers information and support during pregnancy, and empowers you as the parent with skills, tools, and confidence to nurture the healthy growth of your child through the earliest years – a critical time of development.
Who Should Be Referred?
Pregnant women and families with young children.Supporting first-time parents with home visiting services for children up to 3 years old
What Can You Expect?
Once your family has been referred, you will be assigned a home visitor, who will provide caring support and reliable information on the topics that matter most to you about your pregnancy and child’s development. Whether it’s what you can do to strive for a healthy pregnancy; how to soothe your crying baby; how to manage sleep (yours included!); or how to deal with the stresses of parenting; your home visitor is there to help, listen to your concerns, and connect you to community resources based off of your needs. We invest in you to make your own decisions about what is best for you and your child.
Benefits of Home Visiting
  • Healthy birth outcomes - Pregnant women who participated in Home Visiting had 48 percent fewer low birth weight babies. Source.
  • Increasing children’s school readiness - Children who participated in Home Visiting scored 25 percent higher on first through third grade reading and math achievement tests. Source.

Pathway Caring for Children

Help children and families realize the possibilities of their lives through foster care, adoption, and mental health. A nonprofit organization serving 14 Northeast Ohio Counties. Pathway's licensed mental health therapists and clinical social workers can assist children, families, and individuals experiencing a wide range of difficulties. These can include depression and anxiety, behavioral issues, ADHD, social and peer relationships, trauma, grief or loss, and stresses related to everyday life. Pathway is committed to forming an individualized plan that may include individual or group therapy, family empowerment support, or case management in an effort to bring about positive change and growth. Stark Library is a public library system serving Stark County through 10 locations, a Bookmobile, and a wide range of online services. Stark County Family Council

Coordinates help for children and families between the hundreds of child and family service organizations that specialize in specific needs across Stark County. Each of these organizations focus on single issues, such as mental health, developmental disabilities, education, substance abuse, child welfare, juvenile justice, etcetera. While each agency functions independently, many of them are serving the same families and deal with similar issues. The Stark County Family Council was created to open dialogue among service organizations and the families they care for to stimulate a broader awareness of important child and family issues. Working together, we develop, implement and evaluate coordinated responses to these issues. In addition, the Family Council provides a public forum for families, organizations and community members to meet on a regular basis to share information, highlight community activities and coordinate planning and program efforts.
