AHEAD, Inc.

AHEAD Inc. is a local non-profit that has supported Massillon children and their families for more than 30 years. Our purpose is to help remove the barriers that can make learning difficult, so every child has the chance to grow, succeed, and feel supported. We work side-by-side with Massillon City Schools and community partners to connect families with meaningful services and resources. AHEAD offers a variety of supports designed to strengthen students both in school and at home. We have a Behavior Coach in both elementary buildings and for 4th–5th grade at the Intermediate School. The Behavior Coach provides one-on-one and small-group support to help students with challenging behaviors build coping skills, manage emotions, and improve behavior so they can be more successful in the classroom. We also offer multiple supports for families and students experiencing homelessness. AHEAD has staff support on every CARE Team in the district and provides family outreach and support during the summer months working alongside the districts’ Food Truck out in the community. We also coordinate SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids) for three- and four-year-olds at East Elementary. SPARK helps families build early reading, language, and social skills to make the transition into kindergarten smooth and successful. Concerned about your child’s development? Act Early!
 
If you’re concerned that a child may have a delay or disability, it’s important to refer them for Early Intervention as soon as possible. Early Intervention can address all types of concerns, like crawling or walking, speech delays, or social interaction like playing with other children.
 
Early Intervention is available in every part of the state and to any eligible child, regardless of the family’s income.
Providing Early Intervention services is critical to life-long success.
There is no “down side” to referring a child for Early Intervention services. Research shows that starting services early gives a child the best chance to learn and grow. Early support can reduce the need for services later in life. In fact, it is more cost effective to provide Early Intervention than to wait until the child is older.
Every child is unique, and services are designed based on a child's specific needs. Children learn best through everyday experiences and routines in places they know, so services support families where they live, play and spend their day. Virtual options may also be available.
How Early Intervention works for families?
  • Once the family is assigned to an early intervention provider, that provider will walk the family through the eligibility process and determine the next steps.
  • If a child is eligible for services, the family and service coordinator will develop a plan to support the family on their journey to help their child get their best possible start in life.
  • Parents and families are the center of a child’s development. That’s why service coordinators and other service providers work closely with the family to help build their skills and confidence in supporting their child and to help them navigate the journey with their child.

Help Me Grow-Home Visiting

Home Visiting is a voluntary, home-based program offered at no cost to your family.  Our home visitors are well-trained professionals who use a compassionate approach that offers information and support during pregnancy, and empowers you as the parent with skills, tools, and confidence to nurture the healthy growth of your child through the earliest years – a critical time of development.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
Once your family has been referred, you will be assigned a home visitor, who will provide caring support and reliable information on the topics that matter most to you about your pregnancy and child’s development. Whether it’s what you can do to strive for a healthy pregnancy; how to soothe your crying baby; how to manage sleep (yours included!); or how to deal with the stresses of parenting; your home visitor is there to help, listen to your concerns, and connect you to community resources based off of your needs. We invest in you to make your own decisions about what is best for you and your child.
BENEFITS OF HOME VISITING
Healthy birth outcomes - Pregnant women who participated in Home Visiting had 48 percent fewer low birth weight babies. Source.
Increasing children’s school readiness - Children who participated in Home Visiting scored 25 percent higher on first through third grade reading and math achievement tests. Source.

Pathway Caring for Children

Pathway Caring for Children is a nonprofit organization serving 14 Northeast Ohio Counties. Stark County Fatherhood Coalition

The mission of the Stark County Fatherhood Coalition is to encourage fathers to take an active and positive role in their child’s life, and to promote and sponsor activities designed to strengthen families.
